Tour Poppy Ridge

The serene backdrop of Livermore Valley Wine Country sets the stage for a relaxing day of inland link-style golf. The Rees Jones design delivers three nines similar in nature and tone, but as distinct as the grape varietals they are named after: Merlot, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel. The golf course winds through nearly 300 acres, providing pops of green amidst the golden, savannah-covered hills and the vineyards just beyond the property.

Each nine is unique, with nearly 300 feet of elevation change between them, but all three close with a lakeside green in front of the majestic hacienda-style clubhouse.

Par 4

305 to 247 yds – South

The opening hole is a medium length par 4 playing South from the clubhouse. The tee shot is played to the right of the fairway bunker situated on the left side of the hole. The approach is slightly uphill to a green protected by bunkers short left and on the right side of the green. The green complex is bisected by a ridge in the middle of the green so distance control is key.

Par 3

110 to 75 yds – North

The second hole is a short par 3 playing North back towards the clubhouse. There is a bowl in the front right portion of the green that should lend itself to a hole-in-one opportunity when the pin is positioned in that section of the green. The green slopes from left to right with the prevailing wind coming from the same direction. A saving bunker is positioned at the front right side of the green which will prevent balls from rolling down the steep hill to the right. Be wary of going long on this short par 3 as the terrain falls off steeply into a ravine beyond the hole. This is one of the most picturesque holes on the course.

Par 4

422 to 275 yds – Southwest

The third hole is a slight dogleg left par 4 requiring a precise tee shot back into the prevailing wind to avoid the grassy hollow on the left and out of bounds on the right. The medium-to-long approach is played to an elevated green with a large, deep bunker short right and a small bunker long left. Getting the distance right is paramount to avoid a difficult up and down from short or long of the green.

No. 4

Par 3

192 to 94 yds – Northeast

The fourth hole is a medium-to-long par 3 playing slightly downhill to a fairly shallow, but wide green with bunkers short and long of the green providing little room for error. The green slopes from back to front and from left to right so playing from underneath the hole is ideal. A miscalculation in direction could leave a very long putt with significant slope to navigate.

No. 5

Par 4

348 to 258 yds – West

The fifth hole is a short-to-medium par 4 playing West back into the prevailing wind. The tee shot is played left of the fairway bunkers positioned on the right side of the hole. The approach shot is in to a fairly deep green that runs from back to front and is protected by bunkers left and right. Distance control back into the prevailing wind is critical to avoid a lengthy putt.

No. 6

Coming Soon - The Ridge 9 Course Fly Over

Par 4

440 to 310 yds – Northeast

The sixth hole is a medium-to-long dogleg left par 4 that typically plays downwind. The tee shot plays to the middle right side of the fairway to avoid the bunker on the left and the grassy hollow on the right. The approach shot plays slightly downhill to a large green protected by bunkers on the left and right.

No. 7

Coming Soon - The Ridge 9 Course Fly Over

Par 4

276 to 167 yds – East

The seventh hole is a short and potentially drivable par 4. The tee shot plays downhill to a fairway canted from right to left. The tee shot can be played with any club from a short iron to a driver. The green is shallow but wide with a saving bunker positioned off the left side of the green. Distance control is key for those that decide to layup off the tee.

No. 8

Coming Soon - The Ridge 9 Course Fly Over

Par 4

238 to 186 yds – East

The eighth hole is a potentially drivable short dogleg right par 4 playing back uphill to a narrow fairway protected by a bunker on the left and deep native grasses on the right. The tee shot can be played with virtually any club depending on the player’s strategy. The green runs at an angle from back left to front right with a large bunker on the left and a grassy hollow beyond the green.

No. 9

Coming Soon - The Ridge 9 Course Fly Over

Par 4

450 to 331 yds – North

The ninth hole is a long, elevated par 4 playing to the North and is likely the most difficult hole on the course. Due to the elevation, winds are typically blowing hard from left to right. The tee shot is played to the left side of the fairway to avoid the grassy hollows that run up the right side of the fairway to save any errant tee balls from a worse fate. With out of bounds running down the entire left side of the hole, the tee shot here is critical in avoiding a big number. The approach shot plays to a deep green canted from back to front protected by bunkers on the left and right side of the green. A par here is an excellent score.
